Nick Rowles-Davies – Editor

Nick Rowles-Davies set up Legal Finance Expert in November 2025 and oversees the site. He is a leading practitioner, author and key commentator within the legal finance industry. Nick has been credited with being instrumental in the evolution of the litigation funding industry from traditional third-party single case funding to a broad-based legal and corporate finance solution.

Nick has operated within the third-party litigation funding market since 2010, with extensive prior experience in the field of volume litigation finance and after-the-event insurance from as early as 1999. He is an admitted solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales and in the Eastern Caribbean – British Virgin Islands. He has served as an expert witness on legal finance in a number of  high-profile cases.


Having worked at many key firms in the market, Nick wrote Third Party Litigation Funding, published by Oxford University Press (2014). He is currently working on the second edition of the book.

He is also a contributing author to The Legal Risk Management Handbook (Whalley and Guzelian – Kogan Page, 2017) and to the 3rd edition of Friston on Costs (Dr Mark Friston – OUP, 2018).

Nick is Chief Executive of Lexolent, the world’s first origination network platform for legal finance professionals and a litigation finance fund.


Prior to Lexolent, Nick worked across a number of the market’s leading players. He was the Executive Vice Chairman of Litigation Capital Management Limited, Chief Executive Officer of Chancery Capital and prior to that, Managing Director of Burford Capital UK, responsible for the activities of Burford Capital globally outside of the Americas. He also founded Vannin Capital. Nick has been a very active member of the third-party litigation funding market (now more commonly known as the legal finance industry).

Nick served on the boards of several litigation industry institutions. He was Chairman of the Commercial Litigation Association between 2019 and 2023 and also served as a Director of the Association of Litigation Funders of England and Wales.


He has written for the likes of Law.com, HuffPost, Legal Funding Journal, Litigation Finance, New Law Journal, and Concurrences. His new book will be out in 2026 via Oxford University Press.
